I rate big george #4 behind Ali, Louis and Holmes.
My all time top20 lists
1.Ali
2.Louis
3.Holmes
4.Foreman
5.Lewis
6.Frazier
7.Holyfield
8.Johnson
9.Marciano
10.Tyson
11.Dempsey
12.Tunney
13.Liston
14.Jeffries
15.Charles
16.Walcott
17.Bowe
18.Burns
19.Patterson
20.Moorer
I wouldnt include wladimir Klitschko who may displaced Bowe at 17 or even higher in my lists since he is still active fighting and his boxing career isnt over yet.
Here is a better question. Why in the fuk would anybody be so stupid to ask if Foreman is a top 10 all time heavyweight great? Here is a even better one.Why would any moron say Marciano is a top 10 heavyweight great if Marciano wasn't a heavyweight and never fought any heavyweights and the fact that Marciano was a piece of italian trash?
I bet the fool who started this post has Marciano over Foreman. And probably ever other racist white guy who responded has Marciano over Foreman.Foreman isn't just a top 10 great he is one of the best period.Foreman crushed legends.Foreman was able to become champion when he was 45 when most fighters are done at 30(People claim Ali wasn't in his prime when he fought Frazier or Norton the first time).
Foreman knocks out any slugger with ease and Foreman catches most boxers and knocks them out. There is no one style you could say Foreman would have problems with.Foreman tore through the devision in his prime like no other fighter in history.
For the retards who say Tyson is better.Tyson was pathetic. His career was basically him beating up D level fighters ducking top level fighters and being knocked out by low level fighters. For the people who say Joe Freaking Louis was better you are even a bigger jack ass than the Tyson fans.Louis had a weak chin.He wasn't fast on his feet. His punching power was only good enough to knock out the bums he fought in his career.Foreman has one of the best chins in boxing history.Great power and a great chin vs a poor chin and power only good enough to knock out a bunch of second rate white fighers...hmmmm which one would you pick?
Who else are you going to say was better than Foreman?Frazier?Ha..Frazier got his butt handed to him by Foreman 2 times so enough said. How about Dempsey?A cowardly white guy who ducked all of the black men in his time.A bum who was knocked out in one round by Jim Flynn a nobody.A guy who boxed at time when the gloves were as big as UFC fighters.Small gloves= more knock downs and knockouts.Dempsey was also small like Marciano and was unskilled.
Lennox Lewis?Give me a break the man was knocked out 2 time by one punch. His best wins came over a shot Holyfield and Tyson who as i said was a overrated bum.Lewis really did have poor stamina seeing the fact he was out of breath at least 5 plus times in his career.Larry Holmes?Larry was a good fighter but never beat anybody worth mentioning unless you call getting a gift decision over a shot Norton and beating a 40 year old Ali to be something special.Holmes chin was good but not great and Holmes was a weak puncher and pretty weak physically.
Ali?Ali's only win against a fighter in his prime was his win over Foreman.A fight Foreman fought like a idiot in.Norton crushed Ali 3 times.Frazier beat Ali when Frazier was in his prime.Shavers beat Ali and got robbed. So did Jimmy Young.Liston was more overrated than Tyson. But am i saying Foreman is better than Ali?Nope. You could find fault in Foreman as well.
Ali or Foreman.I can't see a true boxing can even mentioning anybody else as the best. But after Ali and Foreman you could name Holmes,Lewis,a prime Bowe,Norton maybe,Maybe Ron Lyle.I used to say Frazier but i have been thinking besides Ali who was probably to full of himself at the time to take Frazier seriously who did Frazier really beat?Bonavena beat Fraizer in their first fight.Quarry lost to every good fighter he ever faced. You could even say Tyson.Sure he is overrated but I have also been thinking about this.Tyson did beat some decent guys in his career.Nobody close to being great but some decent guys like Bruno,Steward ect ect ect.
Never Marciano because again the little boy was never a heavyweight or did he fight any heavyweights.Never Dempsey because even though he fought a few big guys he fought mostly guys his size and he ducked every black fighter of his time.Never Joe Louis because guys like Tyson,Foreman,Tua or any other big or decent puncher who had a decent chin would tear Louis head off.
damn
do you actually rate anybody???
Thought I ought to let you all know how I scored each category and what points they all got.
1>Total years reigned = 5 points for every year
2>Total number of defenses = 5 points for every defense
3>Times champion = 10 points for every time they became champion, +2 points for every year since they won their first title, until winning 2nd title. e.g George Foreman won the title twice giving him 20points, he won his 1st title in 1973 and his 2nd in 1994 a gap of 21 years giving him a further 42 points.
4>Quality of opposition = A=20 points, B=10 points and C=5 points (Of course this is subjective and my opinion)
5>Impact on the sport = A=20 points, B=10 points and C=5 points (Again this is subjective and my own opinion)
Here is how the fighters scored
1> Muhammed Ali,8 yrs,19 def,3 time champ,A QofOpp,A Impact = 233 points
2> Joe Louis,12 yrs,25 def,1 time champ,B,A = 225 points
3> Lennox Lewis,9 yrs,14 def,3 time champ,A,C = 168 points
4> Larry Holmes,7 yrs,20 def,1 time champ,A,C = 160 points
5> Evander Holyfield,7 yrs,7 def,4 time champ,A,C = 145 points
6> Mike Tyson,5 yrs,10 def,2 time champ,A,A = 145 points
7> George Foreman,2 yrs,3 def,2 time champ,A,A = 127 points
8> Joe Frazier,5 yrs,9 def,1 time champ,A,B = 110 points
9> Jack Johnson,7 yrs,6 def,1 time champ,B,A = 105 points
10>Rocky Marciano,4 yrs,6 def,1 time champ,A,A = 100 points
11>Jack Dempsey,7 yrs,5 def,1 time champ,B,A = 100 points
12>Floyd Patterson,6 yrs,6 def,2 time champ,C,C = 97 points
13>James J. Jeffries,5 yrs,6 def,1 time champ,A,B = 95 points
14>Tommy Burns,2 yrs,11 def,1 time champ,C,C = 85 points
15>Ezzard Charles,2 yrs,8 def,1 time champ,C,B = 75 points
16>Sonny Liston,2 yrs,2 def,1 time champ,B,B = 50 points
Yeah I ask the same question I did 9 months ago.
Who are the fucking top 1-5 HW's if Foreman is excluded and why? lol.I have now done my research on 16 champions to start off with.
I have taken into account their achievments as champions and done my list accordingly. Just because I have someone at no16 it doesn't mean I don't think they were not better or could not beat the fighters above them. This list is greatest champions on what they acheived and how they affected the sport. I have taken the following as my criteria:-
1>Total years as champions (Factual)
2>Number of defenses (Factual)
3>Number of times they became champion (Factual)
4>Quality of opposition (Subjective)
5>Impact on the sport (Subjective)
I have devised my own system for scoring points in each of the 5 catagories as fair as I could and then added up the points to find the greatest champion.
I was surprised at how my list had changed from the original.
My Original list:-
1> Muhammad Ali
2> Larry Holmes
3> Lennox Lewis
4> Joe Louis
5> Evander Holyfield
6> Jack Johnson
7> George Foreman
8> Rocky Marciano
9> Joe Frazier
10>Mike Tyson
My new greatest list of heavyweight champions:- (I will use the same system for the champions I have not yet included and will update my list at a later date)
1> Muhammed Ali
2> Joe Louis
3> Lennox Lewis
4> Larry Holmes
5> Evander Holyfield
6> Mike Tyson (scored same as Holyfield, but his 2 losses give EH 5th spot)
7> George Foreman
8> Joe Frazier
9> Jack Johnson
10>Rocky Marciano
11>Jack Dempsey (scored same as Marciano, but RM unbeaten so gets 10th)
12>Floyd Patterson
13>James J. Jeffries
14>Tommy Burns
15>Ezzard Charles
16>Sonny Liston
Top 5 Hw's of all time hasn't changed.
1. Ali
2. Louis
3. Foreman
4. Holmes
5. Dempsey

Dempsey and Johnson do not have the records to be top ten heavyweights of all time. They do not belong there.
I rate Frazier and Norton really highly, so I give a lot of credit to Foreman for those wins.
Im not too impressed by his accomplishments in his comeback. Just because Foreman was old by years didnt make him old in the ring. He actually was a little more skilled at that age, and he really didnt take a huge accumulation of punishment in his career. I would consider JCC more shot at 38 than Foreman at 45, in boxing years.
Foreman's invinciblity was very short lived, all his big wins took place within 3 years. but those are VERY big wins. so I would have him in the top ten.
Easily and without question.
He would knock out every other heavyweight in history with the exception of Ali IMO.
Louis, Marciano, Tyson, Holmes, Dempsey, Johnson, etc etc.
Prime Foreman was an absolute BEAST.
Man, if Foreman would have had a trainer like Emanuel Steward in his first career, there wouldn't even be a thread like this. He beat a prime Briggs when he was 48, imo, definitely rocked him, but man what a beast when he was younger, made Frazier and Norton look like bums, which they definitely weren't.
yeah i think so, sumwhere from 6-10
Wait a minute, who in the hell are the top five then?

That is a silly question, he IS in the Top 5 or 6 of All Time on everyones list...
which is why ali is my #2....im still dubious of his wins over liston...
Ali faced great opposition and theres really no reason to question his wins.
The first fight, espicially.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate, and say that Foreman shouldn't be ranked in the top ten heavyweight list and should be ranked in the 11-20 range. My argument is as follows:
Although Foreman was a great puncher, had good ring skills, and had alot of heart; he didn't beat some of the best opposition as some of his peers have. In his 76 wins, his only noteable wins against solid A-list opponents IMO are:
Michael Moorer(WBA, IBF titles)
Gerry Cooney
Joe Frasier(twice)
Ken Norton
Ron Lyle
gerry cooney had not won a fight in about 3 years. he was not "A" list.
yeah he's top ten, but he is kind of overrated.
he handpicked his opposition in his 2nd career. moorer was the only top 10 hw he defeated in his 2nd career.
and his first career wasn't filled with a large number of top ten guys either.
