Why do a lot of people think tysons power was overrated . Tyson punches made a bigger bang on impact then any other fighters punches in the heavyweight division in the eighties , noise = amount of impact which = power
Tyson's power was never overated. He's not KO'ing guys like he used to because: 1- He stopped training like he used to, even to the point where he wasn't training at all. 2- He completely abandoned/lost his technique for setting up his power shots. Holmes is just bitter because during his title reign he was never really accepted by the public. And he's always disliked Tyson so you'll never hear him say anything unbiased. Fact of the matter is he got KTFO. Saying Tyson beat up on bums in a weak era is weak argument. The man cleaned out the division & I bet some of those belt holders back then would beat 90% of the comp that's in the heavyweight division now.
Oh shut up you fool, he didnt knock lewis because he didnt hit lewis with a good shot and lewis chin is way underrated hes being with big ounchers like frank bruno and razor ruddock and was never knocked , tyson rocked lewis in the first round with a jab and if he landed the punch he did on botha lewis would of being knocked , he didnt knock out willams but willams has being in with some big punches and willams said that tyson was by far the hardest hitters , tysons punches even with their seriously reduced speed make more noise of impact than any fighter out there he is still the hardest puncher in the division .
You are showing that you cant be unbiased about tyson. Before you can expect anyone to take you seriously you have to show that you know what you are talking about.
i know from boxing myself that punches you see hurts a lot less, doesnt mean you wont get koed bit it means your able to tkae more and harder shots.
say the trinidad mayorga fight. when mayorga told trinidad to hit him and it didnt hurt him but when he didnt tell him to hit him it hurted and was caught off guard
i read in a book once that ali had some kind of theory that if you see the punches coming, then no matter how hard they are, they can't knock you down or out. only the punches that hit you unexpected can knock you down. that why he was able to take so much punishment after his exile. the only knockdowns he suffered were ones with punches he didn't see coming.

The people who say his power is overated probably never seen him fight in his prime. Larry Holmes said that when he got hit by Tyson it felt like someone took a pillow and put it on the side of his face and smashed his face with a bat. The dude had crazy power

ok tell that to Barry Bonds and let him hit you with his bat lol...no i have heard that to..but i dont think its true i see guys get ktfo with punches they see all the time
im confused why did ali's chin get stronger after time cause i see him get rocked or knocked down in his early fights

Why is his power overrated because he couldnt knockout danny willams , foreman couldnt knockout out alex stewart and tyson knocked him out in one round dose that also mean that foreman had no power, cooney couldnt knock out michael spinks and tyson knocked out spinks in one round dose that mean cooney had no power , just because a particular fighter cant knock out another fighter on a particular night dosent mean he has no power it just means that they are not catching them with the right shots and in the tyson fight against mcbride tyson was throwing arm punches he wasent getting any leverage on his punches and contrary to what holmes said about cooney hitting harder than tyson well michael spinks said that tyson hit harder than cooney, what a fighter says about who hit them the hardest is just an opinon and in holmes case its a biased opinion because he hates tyson .
agree good points
Rasta is correct. Look how ineffective his power is without the speed behind it. Then look at George Foreman, Gerry Cooney, and Marciano who didn't have that speed but were still powerful fuckers. Obviously Tyson's power alone is not up to par with Foreman's power for example. If it was he would still be a serious threat even without his handspeed.
Tyson's style has always depended on perpetual head movement and quick combinations. Movement was Tyson's greatest asset. Without it he's just a guy with pretty damn good power.

i just dont get the part when people say he didnt have power it was just his speed....speed = power ...speed is power...it is still part of the aquagen...if not then bodybuilders would be the best boxers
because it was. Its was his speed that was devistating. Think about it. The last thing the a fighter loses is his power, and the first thing that goes is his speed. So all those year where mike was KO bums he had Power AND Speed. Now that he is in the latter part of his "Career" he has only his power left. But without the speed, his power does nothing for him. EXAMPLE: Williams, Lewis, Holyfield, Mcbride. With the execption of holyfield, tyson should have easily KO all of the rest.

ok i can agree on that

that is my point. If his speed isnt there to quickly and forcefully place his shot before an opponent moves, the power does nothing.
i know but he still has power to ko people he just cant land ...and as far as them so called if you lined them up on the street and gave all them your best shot how many would you ko or even hurt
but also without the speed he can't land the big hits on the chin like he did back in the day...now guys can just get out of the way and take a few because they know he has no stamina and he cant keep it up for long
that is my point. If his speed isnt there to quickly and forcefully place his shot before an opponent moves, the power does nothing.
