i thought roy was purely washed up..but in the last fight with tarver..he still had some hand speed and sorta quick legs..i think he can beat glen johnson...all he needs is a tune up for confidence..then fight glen johnson
i think johnson would be trouble for him again. for roy to win, he'd have to up his work rate, cut out unnecessary posing, handle johnson's pressure well, and stay off the ropes as i see it.
Johnson would eat Roy alive, again. It would be as bad as the first time.
Roy just can't take a punch, & is unwilling to mount a real offense....
Basically...he'll stand around until Johnson knocks him out again.
hmm
Roy Jones before 2003- Really believed that he was Superman. Thought he could do anything that any other boxer couldn't do, and sometimes did it. Could have easily have beaten Glen Johnson, may have had slight trouble with my dad, like he did with Eric Harding, but still could've convincingly beaten my dad.
Roy Jones of 2005- Lost his hunger. Still in good shape, good speed and strength but doesn't have that energy and drive anymore. Still probably could beat 90% of the light heavyweights. But that magic and drama is gone.
Bingo.
Roy a couple years ago easily UD's Johnson or maybe stops him latem similar to the Clinton Woods fight. Now, I doubt it. He could do better than he did in their 1st fight but that doesn't mean he'd win. He's had multiple concussions now and is weary for a reason. His once decent chin is now average at best and that's not gonna work out since he is easier to hit now.
OH yes definitely, Johnson is no Traver and based on Jones' losing effort against Traver he can still beat Johnson>>>>
yeah, he did so well for like 2 minutes
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Roy would probably get it done to him even worse if he were to fight Glen Johnson again. Roy can't fight someone who's constantly coming at you like Glen does.
HELL NO!! ROY CANT BEAT GLEN JOHNSON
he got whooped in the first fight and the same thing would happen if the fought again, maybe roy would do a little better like avoid getting ko'd, but he fact is he cant win
Johnson would knock Roy into next week...again. Roys reflexes and will to fight are gone, hence the sucking.
There are a LOT of fighters that I'd favor at 168 and 175 to beat Roy right now.
I disagree. Glenn Johnson does have a style that bothers Jones because of his constant pressure. But the Roy Jones before 2003 was an amazing fighter that many people haven't seen and I believe would have beaten Glenn Johnson. Also, Which fights did Roy Jones froze when his opponents took initiative?
No, Roy cannot beat glen and couldnt have beat him even before 2003.
Roy for a long time before tarver even showed up into the picture had tendencies to freeze up when the other fighter showed any initiative. The thing with Roy was for a long time he fought a bunch of bums who were scared before they even laced the gloves on. Once they got in the ring they froze up and let roy pop them. But u look at plenty of roy's pre-tarver fights u see him freezing up when his opponents showed any initiative. Unfortunately his opponents too believed he was superman and would stop pressing.
Sorry but Glen would have exposed Roy's weaknesses earlier if the oportunities were given to him.
Right on man. Even prior to him losing his will to do it anymore. Glen Johnson would have beat him. Glen is the kind of fighter that is made to beat Roy. His style just counters roys perfectly.

I'm not so sure that it's his confidence. Despite hearing about Jones being afraid of being knocked out, the few times he got rocked in the last fight with Tarver, he started pressing rather than backing up. In the 11th, Tarver almost had him and Roy started pressing.
I think it's more like Tyson. He just doesn't want it anymore. You can be all pumped during training, wanting to reclaim old glory, but I imagine it's something totally different once you step into the ring, and have to work for it. You probably know a minute after the bell rings whether you really want to be in the ring or not, and I'm not sure he does.
I don't think he has the hunger or confidence to beat a non-stop attacking fighter like Johnson. He even said it himself after the rubbermatch with Tarver. Roy's confidence is completely shot. The man actually believed he was superman and that he couldn't be touched but then Tarver put his feet back on the ground with one shot.
