I'm wondering how many more Tyson questions you can possibly think of...
To the best of my knowledge, no, his power was never measured. He hit hard, just not hard enough when it mattered the most. Good enough?
no not good enuff.
i am not being obnoxious. persistent yes. i just want some proof of tysons power.
if you really want to know go and spar with him and tell him to hit you as hard as he could in the liver and then in the chin so you could tell the difference. :D
well you cant really tell how powerful it the guy you could say he is powerful or more powerful but there is not direct answer to you question.
once i hit a measuring thing with my right and a got the highest score ever but that was oncely once and usually i a lefty and hit with my left and when i hit with my right again a get a much lower than my left
he's not really curious to know. he just likes to ask the same questions over and over again to be obnoxious. he does it on each boxing board.
he's been asking the same questions on different boxing forums for like the last 5 years.
look at the threads he starts:

well somebody gotta answer him to put some logic to it

Hard to say, for 1 shot power id say Foreman and Shavers anyway! But the thing about Iron Mike was his speed and the way he put those devastating punches together! Excellent combo puncher like Louis! But duz hav 1 shot power - ask Botha!, Among many others!
I repeat, why are you answering this clown with a serious response?
what heavies hit harder.

each one comes in a fight different for example one day you would be punching machine the next day you have slow punchs.
well depend but i would go with sparring partner because the experince the fighter nearly daily
but one thing how to measure mike tyson power is by watching the face expersion and sound like HAAAA whohohohooa!!!!!

Mike Tyson hits WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Harder than any Middle in history or any Super Middle or any Lightheavy or any cruiser and the VAST majority of heavys!

Its very hard to gauge a fighters power . For example chrid byrd says tua hit much harder than wald klitschko . Vitali said sanders hit harder than lewis but rahman said lewis hit harder than sanders . A few sparring partners have said that wald hits much harder than tyson or lewis but francois botha said that tyson and lewis hit much harder than wald . Holyfield said that bowe hit much harder than tyson but tubbs said that tyson hit much harder than bowe . See my point.

In all seriousness the best way to measure a fighters power is to have them hit the bag. Their are different things that go into measuring power this way, I think that when you hit the bag, the more damage that is done to the bag (for example the size of the hole left in it) is bone damaging/body breaking power. The more the bag moves when you hit it may be KO power.
From my experience seeing top punchers like McClellan, Foreman, Lacy, Tyson, and a few others hit the bag is that punching power begins to level out once you hit the middleweights, it is not unusual for a middleweight to hit harder than a heavyweight.
Gerald McClellan, from what I have seen of him, hit harder than most of the top 100 hardest hitting heavyweights including Tyson. Jeff Lacy from what I have seen of his training was up their to, hitting harder than Tyson and alot of the top 100 heavyweights. Don't even get started on Bob Foster lol...
I wonder how many PSI Shaver's punch would get on the Fight Science show?
lact hitting harder than tyson . thats a goddam joke . Apparently lacy is suppose to hit a 1200 psi . but thats bullshit . marciano was a very hard puncher and hit at 1000psi and no way lacy hit harder than marciano . ring magazine aparrently measured michael spinks, joe louis, joe frazier and george foreman in psi throughout their career . the results were something like this
foremam 1600 psi
louis 980 psi
frazier 950 psi
michael spinks 850 psi .
i seriously doubt bruno hit harder than tyson . i saw documented reports on tests of their punching power and judging by the results tyson hit harder . unfortunently it wasent measurted in psi.
IQ is not measured on the way you are brought up
A tramp of the street could very easily have a higher IQ than a graduate from harvard,he just wouldnt be as well spoken.
I doubt any doctor or lawyer(or whatever) will ever generate the same cash as mike tyson can
like the " Good Will Hunt" Matt Damon movie i think it based on a true story
THERE...IS...NO....WAY...TO MEASURE A MANS PUNCHING POWER. Geez, man, you guys cant be THIS naive! It is crazy tothink a mans power could be accurately predicted because guess what? Show me a guy who measures off the chart on these machines and I will find you someone who will take his best punchand laugh in his face rightafterwards. A mans power can ONLY BE "MEASURED" BY the effect it has on another man and even then it is a thing where the other mans resiliancy and the circumstances of the exact moment of impact have as much to do with the effect of the punch as the actual punch itself does
I understand what you're saying, completely.
But resiliancy has nothing to do the "power" of the punch itself, they're two completely different things.
Just because one could take a righthand to the face and stay on his feet, and another person gets hit with the exact same punch, thrown at the exact same speed, with the exact same body weight and leverage behind it, and is knocked out cold, doesn't make the punch any more "powerful"
It's called physics. A Watt of power is a Watt of power, anyway you slice it. It isn't subjective to the person getting hit.
Now I agree that circumstances play a huge role with the EFFECT of the punch (whether or not the person braced themselves for the punch, how fast their head snapped back and in what direction, etc). But that still doesn't change the number of Watts at which the punch was thrown at.
You can measure punching power in terms of psi pressure, but you cannot measure its effect. A knockout puncher has timing, speed and angle. It doesn't take that high a PSI rating to knock someone out, but you can hit extremely hard and still not manage it if you don't land clean.
That is the correct answer. Of course you can measure the power, but the effect, the accuracy, the angles, the surprise factor etc etc. Those you cannot measure.
