This will be on the undercard of Johnson-Tarver II I believe.Very interesting fight, because we'l get to see if Quartey can still be a threat,or if he's just looking for a quick pay day before retiring again.I think he picked the wrong opponent in Verno Phillips, because Verno has been a strong top10 154 pounder for the past few years. He went 12 close rounds with 154pound Champ Kassim Ouma,in a fight in which many believe he was a round or two away from winning. On the other hand,Quartey hasn't been in the ring against a live opponent for five years,so the ring rust will definetly be a factor, against an active veteran like Verno.
I think Quartey is in for a long night, because I doubt he's even ready to deal with the pressure and power that Verno Phillips will bring. He's been retired for five years, and he'l be kicking himself after the fight for taking on such a tough opponent so soon.
Phillips TKO7
Since Quartey weighed in at 153.5lbs,rather then the 160lbs I was expecting him to weigh-in at,I give him a better shot, because of the fact that he's in top notch shape.Five years ago,he looked solid at 154 against Vargas,so maybe he can out muscle Verno with the jab and outbox him.
I'l still go with Verno by Late round stoppage though.
Phillips is a good fighter. I dont have any reason to think he will make it past Quartey's jab though. I think the fight will go the distance and Ike wins in a lopsided fashion.

These two are both 35,but that's where the simularities end.Lets face it,Verno has shown the last few years that he is a late bloomer like a Bhop or a Glencoffe Johnson.Quartey hasn't even beaten a Top10 fighter in 7-8 years. Now,I cant imagine a 35yr old Quartey beating a gamed and active Top10er in the 35yr old Verno Phillips.
The cold hand of logic re - visits us! JP, you know all these glory welterweight wannabes are gonna dis - agree, why not pick Quartey by first round KO then when he is schooled over 12 rounds admit your real feelings?
Quartey is probably still a decent fighter but not after 5 years out!
Verno by UD!
I Like Quartey. He Is A Good Boxer That Never Dissapoints Or Gives Up. Hell, Some Believe He Got Robbed Twice Against Vargas And Delahoya. Those Are Two Good Fighters Too Be Robbed By Lol. Anyways I Hope He Doesnt Have The Same Fate That Trinidad Had. By Fighting A Really Tough Spoiler Like Verno In His Second Comeback Fight. I Guess Fighters Fall In Love With What They Used To Be. I Hope Quartey Prepares And Comes To Fight Like He Did In The Past. If Not He'll Be In For A Surprize With The Always Hard Working Phillips.
Verno Phillips I feel has lost the desire to fight. The last few rounds against Ouma, he really looked like he hadn't just given up on the fight, but the fight game. I got Quartey by UD.
Phillips by decision. Quartey is rusty as hell right now, plus he was always a bit robotic. Fernando Vargas ruffed him up and beat him down, easily.
Phillips will dominate Ike...
I think Quartey takes it by decision. He already had his comeback fight and his jab is a thing of beauty; probably the most beautiful one in boxing right now. He will control the tempo with the jab and end up beating VP on points.

Philips' oppositon is poor. For example McKArt was far over the hill in the Philips fight. I don't know how good was Verno in the past but now he is an easy food for each boxer with good skills. His head is always at the level of his opponent’s belt, he doesn’t see the target, he doesn’t know what is tactics, he doesn’t know how to defend himself by hands.
Quartey KO/TKO 4.
Interesting,I disagree 100%,lol

It will be nice to see what Ike can do after his lay-off, I guess he fought in Ghana but this is his real comeback fight. I guess I like Phillips. Quartey fights always going forward like Ouma and Phillips was able to deal with him, he just ran out of gas a the end. My pick is Phillips, but i'll be rooting for Quartey
I think the active Verno Phillips will outwork him over 12 to a close decision. I think Ike can take a good shot so no KO's here. Quartey is one of my favorite fighters ever though so I will be rooting for him all the way. Verno is an unusually tough opponent for Ike at this stage of his comeback so thats pretty beastly if he somehow pulls out the victory. I hope we see the old Ike.
I think Bazooka will win in a close split decision. He will be favored he is more marketable so boxing politics will play a role and he will get the nod from the judges
It'l be interesting to see how this Poll goes.I mean,Quartey is more popular than Phillips, but every hardcore boxing fan knows how good Phillips is and how rusty Quartey will possibly be after 5yrs away from boxing.I wanna see if this poll, like most of the polls i've been a part of,is based on popularity,or does most of BS know their boxing.
I think Philips wins on points. I don`t think it will be very hard either. Quartey has been out too long to sep back and beat this guy. Had Ike taken a few tune ups then i might give him the the nod but Philips has been fighting for world titles as recently as last year.
Philips WPTS.
