If Miguel Cotto can get by the consensus toughest challenge of his young career on June 11th vs. Mohamad Abdulaev, where do you think his career will go?
(1) A 140-lb. unification fight vs. either the Mayweather/Gatti winner or the Tszyu/Hatton winner?
--I would love to see either of these scenarios, as fights vs. Tszyu, Gatti and Hatton would be wars, and a contrast of styles vs. Floyd would be intriguing. Could Floyd dominate like Winky did to Tito? Could Cotto withstand Tszyu's sledgehammer right hand? Would either Gatti or Cotto be able to stand after trading power punches for several rounds?
I'm not a fan of Cotto--in fact I was cheering wildly when Chop Chop had him dazed--but there is no doubt he is a damn exciting fighter in boxing's best division...for now.
(Speaking of divisions...)
(2) After PERHAPS conquering one of the 140 lb. titleholders, moving up to 147 lbs. to take on Zab Judah or perhaps even De La Hoya?
(3) Or even moving all the way up to 154 and either calling out Winky to avenge his country's hero and subsequently replace Tito as such or going after Ouma? With his incredible weight gain after the Corley weigh-in this is easily foreseeable (moving to 154, not particularly getting these fights)...
I know alot of boxing fans are down on Cotto after the Corley performance and gift stoppage, and again I must clarify that I'm NOT a fan of his, but he is one of a handful of the most exciting young boxers out there.
Thoughts?
i think cotto is gonna lose, cause Abdullaev is a real threat(despite the fluke loss)
I agree he will get KTFO
Abdulaev only lost his last fight because the dumbass couldnt understand teh standing 8 count in English
his corner were part to blame for that also
Cotto being relaxed is no problem. PBF is the best fighter in the world NOT named Bernard Hopkins but he has the thing that will be the fall of X........SPEED. He's already got all the tricks all the punches, can go in the trenches with them all and could win a round w/o punching like Willie Pep. Yall got Cotto confused with someone who has beatin a contender. Tszyu will destroy him.
he isn't fighting top ranked contenders at all.....even Abdullaev is not top ranked, but, because Abdullaev beat him in 1 (one) amateur match 5 years ago, this is supposed to make him a worthy contender....this is just another bluff in my opinion.
i suppose Vitali Klitschko will have to give Luan Krasniqi a shot at his title also.....because Luan beat him as an amateur....but of course not......you need to prove yourself as a professional.
he should fight kostya zu, and zab judah...if he can beat these guyz, he belongs in the p4p list, if not he is nothing special.
haha. But in the same breath.....you say that if Mayweather beats Gatti...then he is something special? I talked to my left testicle.....and it wants its boxing knowledge back.

The Corley shot was a very hard unseen punch. If Cotto is relaxed in the ring everyone should fear him, even Mayweather. I think Zoo and PBF could be Cotto but i also think Cotto could beat them.
Would Cotto-Tszyu be a big money fight? I would pay to see it, but with no American fighter would it be a big PPV? Cotto-PBF or Cotto-Gatti would be bigger PPV fights IMO. I wonder how buys would compare of these 4 fights:
Cotto-Tszyu
Cotto-Hatton
Cotto-PBF
Cotto-Gatti
I'd pay $50 to see Gatti vs Cotto. That has FOTY written all over it. If Corrales is up to it........ Cotto vs Corrales would be sensational aswell.

I agree with a lot of what has been said here, and I've been saying for awhile that I think Cotto has the best all-around skill set of any fighter today...
Anyway, I don't think he'll be able to stay at 140 for much longer and needs to seek out big time fights in his next 2 bouts after Abdullaev. His future is at 147 for sure.
cotto will not last a second with any of the top boxers right now. Hes has to wait a couple of years cause if Chop Chop had him in trouble imagine what an elite would do.
I know every boxer might have an off fight once in a while. But when you come in 25 pound heavier than your opponent and your getting rocked and your opponent is not even an elite you have some more problems than just a off day.
I Am Only Going To Say This Once
Muhammed Abdulaev is in trouble. Big time. Cotto is going to knock him smooth out. This is not the Olympics anymore. LOL.

I think he has the potential to be a better fighter than Felix, he is more well rounded in terms of overall skills than Trinidad was at Cotto's age.
Now his chin may or may not be a concern, I think he was just too careless and too pumped up in front of his people and he gave Corley no choice but to sit down on his punches and throw them as hard as he could...Corley can punch and when he is given no choice but to throw down early in a fight we saw what the result can be.
I think Cotto will beat Abdulluev because he is the bigger guy not necessarily the better guy. I think he should jump at Gatti but he should try and stay clear of PBF, he should jump at a guy like Judah but stay away from a guy like Zoo...
He is going to give us some great moments in the ring, I can't wait to watch him and root against him...despite me rooting against him I recognize he is great for this sport and he is exactly what the Puerto Rican's need after what they have been thru this past week.
Cotto is still the best young fighter in the game today, I just wonder if his fighting at jr. welter has hidden some of his flaws...he won't be a jr. welter forever so we will find out sooner or later.
