Tyson Fury doesn’t believe that size will play a factor when he faces Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 for the undisputed heavyweight championship. Fury stands six inches taller than his rival Usyk and normally weighs in around 50 pounds heavier than the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. The 6ft 9ins heavyweight is known for using his size to break his opponents down, using it effectively in his three fights against Deontay Wilder. Despite his huge size advantage, Fury doesn’t think it will play a part after Usyk proved he can handle big heavyweights with his performances against Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

Liam Smith has revealed that he has had discussions with Matchroom Boxing for a potential fight with welterweight star Conor Benn later this year. Smith hasn’t boxed since his stoppage defeat in his rematch with Chris Eubank Jr. last September, after previously knocking out Eubank seven months earlier. Smith blamed the defeat on an injury that delayed the rematch from its original date in June. Eubank decided to face Smith in their first contest after his fight with Benn was called off on fight week due to adverse findings in Benn’s drugs tests. Benn, who maintains his innocence, is in an ongoing battle to be able to box in the U.K. following two underwhelming performances in the United States.

Promoter Eddie Hearn expects Canelo Alvarez to stop Jaime Munguia this Saturday, but admitted the Mexican veteran’s age could come into play the longer the fight lasts.

Dillian Whyte’s trainer Buddy McGirt has insisted that his man can still win a world heavyweight title. Whyte, who previously fell short for world honors against Tyson Fury two years ago, had been out of the ring for 16-months before he returned against Christian Hammer last month. It was Whyte’s first fight since an adverse finding in a test for PEDs ahead of his rematch with domestic rival Anthony Joshua.
