by T.K. Stewart - When asked why he couldn't stay away from the sport of boxing, the oft un-retired 'Sugar' Ray Leonard said, "I missed the sound of the crowd. I missed that feeling of being the center of attention and I missed the rush of the competition." And so it is for Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton. There are those within the sport that hope he never walks up the steps and slinks through the ropes and into a boxing ring ever again. After devastating one punch knockout losses at the hands of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2007 and Manny Pacquiao in 2009, there are those that feel it is time for Hatton to take a long walk off into the boxing sunset. At 31-years-old, with millions of pounds stashed in the bank and with a loving family that supports him, Hatton could easily walk away from the sport. He held titles at 140 and 147 pounds and he routinely fought in front of sold out crowds at the M.E.N. Arena in his hometown of Manchester, England. He is one of the few fighters to enjoy high popularity in both Great Britain and the United States. He is generally regarded as one of the most adored athletes/celebrities in England and he is the most popular fighter to come along in that country in the past 40 years.

BoxingScene.com spoke with one of Las Vegas’ most influential oddsmakers Tuesday afternoon and he said he envisions few ways in which ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley can lose when he faces Andre Berto on Jan. 30 at Mandalay Bay.
By T.K. Stewart - Right now, boxing fans are feeling like a victim of Ashton Kutcher’s old television show Punk’d. Since Nov. 14, better known as the night that Manny Pacquiao scored an electrifying 12th- round TKO win over Miguel Cotto, anybody that follows the sport has had their appetite whetted by the mouth watering prospect of seeing a showdown between the world’s two top pound-for-pound boxers – Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. But with the negotiations for that fight now having imploded like the demolition of The Sands Casino in Las Vegas, boxing fans are left with nothing more than a cloud of dust as they try to make sense of what it all means and what will be next for both Pacquiao and Mayweather. By any measure one wishes to use, there is no doubt that Pacquiao and Mayweather are ranked #1 and #2 – in that order. Pacquiao is the best boxer on the planet and Mayweather is further down behind him – lower on the list in second place.
World renowned trainer Teddy Atlas has been working with Russian-born heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin since July. Although the two have had only one fight together, a third-round knockout win over Leo Nolan last month, Atlas can see the potential in his young charge.
WBA super lightweight titlist Amir Khan says his mid-2009 move to 140-pounds has made all of the difference in the world compared to life as a 135-pound lightweight.
By T.K. Stewart - Tex Rickard was a visionary. He was most probably the best promoter in boxing’s storied history and he lived by a lone philosophy, “Give the people what they want, the way they want it, and not the way you think best.” If Bob Arum would have had his way, boxing fans would have been treated to a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. mega-fight at Jerry Jones’ Cowboys Stadium on March 13. Bob Arum, you see, has vision. But Arum, and the sport in which he operates, is now an every man for himself environment. As 2010 dawns, boxing has a myriad of competing self interests which means putting together a big fight also means appeasing every single group. Every whim, every desire, every nagging line of every contract has to be agreed to by every party - or there is no fight. Boxing had a magnificent opportunity to eclipse the sporting world and to put itself on the front pages of newspapers and be the headline of sportscasts round the globe with a 2010 Pacquiao - Mayweather bout. But negotiations imploded because of unreasonable contractual demands by the fighters and those that call the shots for them. Because of single-minded wants - the entire sport suffers. There is plenty of blame and finger-pointing to go around in what has become the latest fiasco in the sport. What was going to be the most lucrative fight in boxing history looks now as though it may never happen. Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, who attempted to negotiate the Pacquiao fight on behalf of Mayweather, is pointing the finger of blame at Arum - and Arum is pointing his finger right back at Schaefer and Mayweather’s quasi-manager, the elusive Al Haymon.
