Welsh prospect Joe Cordina staked his claim for an international step-up after he retained his WBA International lightweight title and added the Commonwealth strap with a unanimous decision over Sean Dodd in his hometown of Cardiff.
Natasha Jonas suffered the first defeat of her professional career after succumbing to a fourth round stoppage against Viviane Obenauf at the Ice Arena in Cardiff. Obenauf (13-4, 7 KOs) fought Jonas’ former Great Britain podium squad team mate Chantelle Cameron in her last fight in December, where she was forced to retire in the sixth round, but she wouldn’t quit in a determined effort against Jonas, who slumps to 6-1 (5 KOs) and hands over her WBA international super-featherweight strap.
Josh Taylor moved one step closer to a world title shot by retaining his WBC silver light-welterweight title with a third round stoppage of Winston Campos at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena. The 27 year-old therefore extends his record to 12 fights without loss by ending Campos’ unbeaten run of 14 fights, even though it was the Nicaraguan fighter’s first fight outside his home country since 2013.

The intervention left Froch, 32-2 (23), relieved, Groves, now 19-1 (15), dejected and the fans in attendance and watching on Sky Sports Box Office questioning what could and would have happened had Groves negotiated his way through the storm.
