Cris Esqueda / Matchroom BoxingJoe Cordina has agreed terms to a contest with former eight-division world champion and Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.
The contest, if it was to take place, would land as the co-feature on the upcoming event headlined by Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua on December 11 at Cardiff, Wales’ Principality Stadium. Hearn had revealed to BoxingScene last month that Pacquiao has an agreement with organizers SELA to feature on the bill and that he had offered Cordina, Conah Walker, Lewis Crocker and Jack Catterall as potential opponents.
“[Cordina] has agreed terms to face Manny Pacquiao, but we don’t know if that’s happening,” said Hearn. “From our side, we’ve agreed to do it.”
Wales’ Cordina has been competing at lightweight in recent fights and would be moving up to 147lbs for a lucrative contest with Pacquiao. The former two-time IBF 130lbs titleholder was due to face Abdullah Mason on July 4 in Cleveland, Ohio, but a pending assault charge meant he was declined entry to the US. Cordina was found not guilty of assault this week at Cardiff's Magistrates’ Court and is now free to continue his career.
