The World Boxing Council is launching a pension fund for ex-boxers, with the help of luxury Swiss watch company Hublot. Twelve all time ring greats will help launch the Fund, which is specifically aimed at helping former boxers, who’ve fallen on hard times.
Four division world champion Erik Morales is pledging to beat Danny Garcia when they meet in a rematch at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on October 20th. In the build up to their first fight, which took place in March down at the Reliant Arena in Texas, simply nothing was going Erik’s way. The fight which was originally scheduled for the end of January, had to be postponed because Morales had to undergo gall bladder surgery. With just five weeks to prepare, Erik lost his WBC super lightweight title on the scale after being unable to make weight - an unusual, uncharacteristic, but understandable first ever lapse, in his long career.
According to featherweight contender Salvador Sanchez II (30-4-3, 18KOs), he suffered an ankle injury in training camp and as a result he won't move forward with a planned match against undefeated Andres "Jaguar" Gutierrez (22-0-1, 19KOs). The fight was scheduled to take place on the 15th of September at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, according to Sanchez's manager Grant Elvis Phillips.
