The World Boxing Council has extended the timeframe for a decision on their welterweight and junior middleweight titles.

"The World Boxing Council has decided to address every single topic on the status of the weight divisions during the upcoming world annual convention, which will be held in Kunming, China, from November 1-6. The future of the welterweight and super welterweight divisions will be among the priority discussions during the convention."

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, the WBC will either order a tournament in each weight division or have the top two contenders face each other for the vacant belts.

At welterweight, the top two are Amir Khan [1] and Danny Garcia [2], and at junior middleweight is Jermell Charlo [1] and John Jackson [2].

Give the timeframe, if they order the two contenders to face each other those contests happen until next year.

"We'll define a plan at welterweight and super welterweight. Perhaps there will be a tournament in both divisions or order direct fights [between the top contenders]. When we determine our course of action, we will let everyone know," Sulaiman said.

The current champion at welterweight and junior middleweight, Floyd Mayweather Jr., announced his retirement following last Saturday's dominating twelve round decision win over Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather has yet to vacate and the WBC has yet to remove him from the champion's position.
