Former two division world champion Timothy Bradley (31-1, 12KOs) is training hard in camp for his scheduled fight with Diego Chaves (23-2, 19KOs) on December 13th at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Before the Chaves fight was finalized, Bradley's name was being mentioned as a potential opponent for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs). A catch-weight of 154.5/155 was likely, according to their mutual promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank.
In a recent interview with BoxingScene.com, Arum said Bradley was a frontrunner (as long as he beats Chaves) to face the winner of next year's mega-fight between Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
Cotto is trained by Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach, who knows Bradley very well. Roach's star fighter, Manny Pacquiao, faced Bradley twice. And Ruslan Provodnikov, another Roach fighter, also faced Bradley.
"Freddie knows me pretty well now, I’m not actually sure how I would attack that fight [with Cotto]. I do know how exactly but I don’t want to give away anything if the fight was to happen, I don’t want to say too much. We know that speed kills and I know I have the speed advantage in that fight and I know he’s gonna probably try to apply pressure, but I know his corner knows that I’m quick enough to get out of the way," Bradley told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
"I know now that the Cotto fight could materialize in the future. My IQ for boxing, I can figure these guys out. I’ve been a big fan of Cotto for many years and I know what he likes to do, I know his style very well. I just gotta get in the ring and outthink him that night, that’s pretty much it."
