WBC “emeritus” middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs) stopped previously unbeaten WBO junior middleweight beltholder Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-1, 23 KOs) in eight rounds on Saturday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Martinez received credit for a knockdown in the fourth, and then dropped Dzinziruk in round five, and then put him down three more times in round eight for the TKO win.
Martinez is fueled by his personal quest to become the recognized pound for pound king of boxing. He wants to fight either of the two boxers at the top of the pound for pound rankings.
"It's on my mind. It is an obsession. It motivates me. I know that I will be number one pound for pound and I will obtain it. I want the best fighters in the world. I want Mayweather. I want Pacquiao. I want to fight the best," Martinez said.
