Saul "Canelo" Alvarez continues to train for the first defense of his junior middleweight world championship middleweight (WBC). He goes up against the British southpaw Ryan Rhodes, on June 18 at the arena VFG of Tlajomulco, Jalisco. Alvarez's manager, José Chepo Reynoso, said hall-of-fame trainer Freddie Roach disrespected his boxer with some of his recent comments.

Roach issued a press release where he stated that his boxer, undefeated Vanes Martirosyan, would knock Canelo out in a single round. Vanes, the WBC's Silver champion at 154, is the next challenger in line for a shot at Canelo's title.

Reynoso said Roach's comments showed "a lack of respect for the champion." He doubts Vanes has the ability to stop his boxer in a round - by pointing to Vanes' recent win over the lesser regarded Saul Roman [Vanes by TKO in 7] - stating "he thinks Canelo would last far less against Vanes and he's wrong."

Canelo has officially closed out his training camp in Big Bear, California. On Thursday he begins training in Los Angeles. The strength training is over and he completed 95 rounds with sparring partners. He runs a daily for an average of 50 minutes. He will arrive in Guadalajara early Saturday and begin some light training.
