MONTREAL – Osleys Iglesias and Vladimir Shishkin both came in under the super middleweight limit Wednesday, a day before their IBF title eliminator.
Iglesias, 13-0 (12 KOs), and Shishkin, 16-1 (10 KOs), both checked in at 167.6lbs for their 12-round fight set for Thursday night at Montreal Casino here in Quebec. The fight pits Iglesias, ranked No. 2 by the IBF, and third-ranked Shishkin against one another, with the vacant No. 1 ranking at stake.
The Germany-based Cuban Iglesias will be fighting for the fifth straight time in Quebec province since signing with local promoter Eye of the Tiger, while Shishkin is fighting for the first time since his unanimous decision loss to William Scull last October for the vacant IBF title.
The winner would theoretically be in line to fight for at least one of the titles being contested on September 13, when undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will meet Terence Crawford in Las Vegas. The show will stream live on punchinggrace.com.
In the co-featured bout, Dzmitry Asanau and Laid Douadi will meet in a 10-round lightweight bout with world-ranking implications. The Belarus native Asanau, 10-0 (4 KOs), came in just under the limit at 134.9lbs, while France’s Douadi, 27-0-1 (3 KOs), weighed in at 135.0lbs even.
Colombian junior welterweight Jhon Orobio, 12-0 (10 KOs), weighed in at 139.6lbs, while late replacement Ivan Basurto Monroy, 10-8 (10 KOs), of Queretaro, Mexico, was exactly 140.0lbs.
