Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer for WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., says he would rather have his son retire than take on easy opponents.
Mayweather is scheduled to return on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The two rumored opponents include former champions Amir Khan and Andre Berto.
Floyd Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), 38-years-old, has been going strong for 19-years and it might be the right time to retire, says his father.
After the May super-fight victory over Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Jr. announced that his September fight would be his last. Many expect him to at least fight until win number 50.
Mayweather Sr. told David Mayo of Mlive.com: "Floyd told me he just wants to get a couple of easy fights," which would suggest his son intends to fight into 2016. My honest opinion, if he feels that way, he should get on out of the game.
"Anybody's body, 20 years, anybody's body gets tired — and it's been every day of 20 years, and longer, for my son."
