WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) admits that his May 2nd mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao was the important bout of his pro career.
A five division world champion, Mayweather is claiming that his upcoming fight with Andre Berto, scheduled for September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is going to be the final bout of his career.
The fight with Pacquiao was hyped up for the last five years. It broke every possible financial record with 4.4 million pay-per-view purchases and half a billion in revenue. But the fight failed to live up to expectations with little to no fireworks as Mayweather had few issues in winning a twelve round unanimous decision.
"I'm truly, I'm truly blessed with how my career has went. Every fight has played a major role but my most important fight of my career was number 48. Even though every fight played a major key, everyone was else was saying Pacquiao was the guy, that Floyd Mayweather was ducking and dodging. Just like I do in the ring, I bobbed and weaved [the comments from critics], and went out to the ring and did what I had to do. No matter how I won as long as I won," Mayweather said.
