Floyd Mayweather called May 4 opponent Robert Guerrero a “big-time hypocrite” and questioned his viability as a good example for others in the third edition of Showtime’s “All-Access” series (Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET/PT).
“This is a religious guy, but he had Marilyn Monroe on his wall in his house,” Mayweather said. “He’s contradicting himself. Big-time hypocrite.”
Throughout the buildup to the fight, Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) has criticized Mayweather for his conduct outside the ring, especially his two-month stint in a Las Vegas jail last summer for a domestic violence conviction.
“He’s preaching how he’s supposed to be a role model, talking about me, but this kid is f—king lawns up with a dusty-ass truck,” Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) said, referring to Guerrero doing donuts with his vehicle on the field adjacent to his hometown gym in Gilroy, Calif.
Guerrero, known as “The Ghost,” started his campaign to lure Mayweather into a pay-per-view showdown over a year ago when he boldly called him out via the press. Though Mayweather eventually agreed to face him, the reigning pound-for-pound king insisted that he’s not impressed with the challenge Guerrero presents.
“He said he’s been calling me out for a year, but I really don’t know him, only from a a couple clips that I’ve seen,” Mayweather added. “Just for starters, he’s a flat-footed fighter. Me, myself, I’m a winner. I know how to win. Come fight night, I’m always able to expose any fighter’s weakness. We’re the Ghostbusters.”
In an interview with CSNBayArea.com last week during his media workout, Mayweather waited until the end of the chat to throw a verbal jab at his rival, who was arrested last month in New York City on illegal gun possession charges.
“Tune in May 4th. May Day. Mayweather versus Guerrero. And a week later, he gotta go away and do time,” Mayweather said.
Mayweather and Guerrero square off on May 4 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Showtime Pay-Per-View.
