MGM Grand, Las Vegas - WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), while not naming the entities or individuals in question, has confirmed that he received some significant offers to continue fighting.
BoxingScene.com reported a few weeks that Showtime/CBS was attempting to negotiate a three fight contract extension with Mayweather. Showtime Sports head Stephen Espinoza denied those discussions had taken place [at least at that moment in time].
Mayweather has been adamant that Saturday's fight with Andre Berto is going to be the final fight of his 19 year career. That fight will also make Mayweather a free agent, as the fight with Berto is the final obligation of his six fight exclusive contract with Showtime/CBS.
"Well they came to me. people have been throwing crazy numbers at me to stay in the sport...nine figures up front. numbers have came at me, but right now I'm okay [financially]," Mayweather said.
Can someone tempt him with an offer six months or a year down the line?
"When you are dealing with me, I write my own number. People in the last fight [with Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd], they seen [a check for] $101, $101 million, but really it was $127 [million] guaranteed, but I made some smart investments to make the $26 [million]. I got the other money on the backend," Mayweather said.
