On Saturday, February 25, undefeated Alexander Povetkin will defend his "regular" World Boxing Association (WBA) belt against world cruiserweight champion Marco Huck in the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. Povetkin (23-0, 16 KOs) has a score to settle with Huck (34-1, 25 KOs) and wants to send the German boxer back to the cruiserweight ranks.
Ulli Wegner, the trainer of Huck, won't deny his fighter's underdog status. Povetkin, an Olympic champion and unbeaten in the pro ranks, is a big favorite to win the contest.
"Unequivocally, the favorite in this fight is Povetkin. But I'll try to do everything possible for Marco to get in there in the best shape. He must give everything of himself until the end. We will have to box on the brink of our capabilities. Huck wanted to try his hand at heavyweight. I supported him in an effort to rise in weight, but in his current weight class he doesn't have enough strong opponents to fight. Nevertheless, I am very pleased with the fight against Povetkin," Wegner said.
