WBA interim-junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara reacted to the recent comments that were made by Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs), who said in his opinion Alfredo Angulo did not quit during the tenth round of last year battle with Lara.

Angulo (22-3, 19KOs), who had Lara down twice in the fight, was unable to continue after suffering an eye injury in the tenth round - cause by a punch from Lara.

Canelo will face Angulo this coming Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"Angulo did not quit, he called timeout. Canelo and Angulo have talked more about me during this promotion than each other. They know I'm the best junior middleweight in the world and they want to avoid me. At the end of the day, the boxing public knows that Canelo doesn't have that real Mexican heart. All of the Mexicans great...Chavez, Marquez, Sanchez, Barrera, Morales....all fought the best with no excuses. Even Chavez Jr., I respect him more than this kid because he wants to fight the best. Canelo only fought Mayweather for the money, which is fine because you need to get paid but he doesn't want be great and that's the problem. Boxing is also about respect, dignity and heart which he lacks," Lara stated.
