Amir Khan has revealed plans to launch a mixed martial arts league in Britain. Khan is a stakeholder in the Indian MMA organisation Super Fight League.

The Super Fight League is scheduled to be unveiled in 2017, and will involve a competition with eight teams from different areas of Britain.

"MMA is big and getting bigger," Khan told the BBC's World Service. "Fighters like Conor McGregor are making a lot of noise. MMA is hitting some high numbers on pay per view.

"I am always going to be involved in boxing but to have my foot in the door with MMA is brilliant. The market is massive for us. We want to reach countries like India with a population of 1.2 billion people."

The 30-year-old welterweight, whose camp are again in discussions with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook regarding a potential fight in 2017, added: "(Brook is) a fight that I would love to have.

"I have changed my mind because of the Triple G (Golovkin) fight. Kell was smart taking that fight. He knew he was going to get beat but he still took it because he knew he was going to get paid well and make a name for himself."

Brook (36-1, 25KOs)  has a mandatory defense due to Errol Spence in the welterweight ranks. He suffered his first career defeat to middleweight king Gennady Golovkin by way of a fifth round TKO back in September. He moved up in weight by thirteen pounds to take that fight and plans to drop back to 147 in the coming months.

Khan has been out of the ring for a long time, not seeing action since getting knocked out by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in the sixth round back in May. A few months ago Khan underwent surgery to correct a hand issue and the rehabilitation has prevented him from training.
