Kermit Cintron, a hard-punching former world champion, has signed with Top Rank. Bob Arum made the announcement today at a press conference in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Cintron, born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, is a hard puncher who is rated WBO #4, IBF #7 at 154 pounds.

"Kermit can fight at either 147 pounds or 154 pounds," said his co-manager Josh Dubin. "He was in the welterweight division for a long time when we got opportunities to fight at a higher weight, starting when we took a short-notice fight to take on Sergio Martinez at super welterweight."

"Kermit is a big puncher with knockout power," said chief trainer Ronnie Shields. "I've been with Kermit for  his last five fights. He can take you out with either hand. There is a lot of excitement when Kermit gets into the ring."

Kermit said "I have loved boxing since I was a little kid. My uncle took me to the gym for the first time. I started  boxing when I was around 19 years old. I had 27 amateur fights and won  23 of those. As a pro, I've been in a lot of big fights."

Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank, said Cintron's debut fight with Top Rank will soon be announced.
