Top Rank announced Wednesday that it has signed unbeaten lightweight prospect Deric “Scooter” Davis to a long-term promotional deal.
Davis, 8-0 (8 KOs), of Washington D.C. is currently trained by Barry Hunter, who previously trained the Peterson brothers and Rau’shee Warren, among others, at Headbangers Boxing Gym.
Davis was an experienced amateur, with over 170 bouts to his credit. He also done plenty of learning in the gym, sparring with the likes of Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Stephen Fulton and Shawn Porter, among others.
The 23-year-old turned pro in 2023 and most recently fought earlier this month, knocking out Leandro Damian Medina in two rounds on a card promoted by ProBox TV.
“This is a testament to my hard work and God's plan for me. People weren’t knocking down my door to sign me when I turned pro, but I trusted the process,” Davis said. “The fact that Top Rank saw something in me means so much. I’m ready to do my thing and show the world what I’m about.”
Adds Bob Arum, Chairman of Top Rank: “When I saw Scooter fight up close, it was clear that I was watching a future world champion. He is an exceptionally nice young man, but when he steps in the ring, he has a real mean streak. Mark my words: Scooter Davis will be the next superstar from Washington, D.C.”
