A few days ago, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34KOs) spoke to BoxingScene.com and complained about the high ranking of rising star Anthony Joshua (14-0, 14KOs).

Joshua is already ranked in the number two position in the WBC's top ten. He is expected to become the mandatory challenger by the end of next year.

Wilder is set to return on January 16th against Polish contender Artur Szpilka at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The winner of Wilder-Szpilka will have to face current WBC mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.

"Out of the 14 fights he got....if you look at the rankings, Joshua is ranked at number two for some reason. I don’t really feel that he proved himself to get to that high rank.  It’s like, who has he really fought that was ranked to get to that point. But, you know there are many ways to get ranked. Its just the politics of boxing, how to work the business of boxing as I say," Wilder said to BoxingScene.com.

“Everybody want their guy, if they got the goods, to get to the top real fast. I don’t need to go more into that, it is what it is and soon he will be a mandatory of mine and I’m looking forward to that."

Joshua returns to the ring on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London. He faces fellow unbeaten and domestic rival Dillian Whyte (16-0, 13KOs).

He says if Wilder has a serious issue over the ranking, then he should take his complaint to the World Boxing Council.

"I think if he believes that I shouldn't be number two, then he should go speak to the WBC. I don't ring them up and tell them to put me at number two. As I've stated before, it's irrelevant where I'm ranked because when we get in there I can be ranked at number 100 and still knock you out, so you best watch your mouth and what you say, because it's all about these [hands] really," Joshua told BoxingScene.com.

"It's not about where you're ranked, what you say or how massive you are.   It just comes down to that night and getting that win and that's what's important to me, and not world rankings or what you may say."

"I'm not making these decisions. These are people in big organizations that are moving around rankings and putting me towards his world title."
