British/Commonwealth champion Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15KOs) is inching his way to a world title opportunity.
Currently ranked at #2 under the WBC, Joshua was tested tough on Saturday night when he knocked out domestic rival Dillian Whyte in seven rounds at the sold out O2 Arena in London.
Up next is likely the EBU championship currently owned by Erkan Teper. The current WBC world champion is Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34KOs), who faces Polish boxer Artur Szpilka on January 16th.
After the next defense, Wilder will have to face his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.
Joshua is not going to rush his own progression, but he is not impressed with the level of opponents that Wilder is facing and he feels the champion should be closing them out in more impressive fashion.
"I watched the Eric Molina fight. I watch the last fight and so on. That's why I said I'm going to take my time, as British champion, so by the time I'm world champion I won't be making the mistakes he makes. He's fighting like a British champion at the minute [with the type of opponents he's facing]," Joshua told BoxingScene.com.
"He should be knocking guys out like [Mike] Tyson did and [George] Foreman did. He should be comparing himself to these guys. I think he needs to up his game as a champion. He's talented but as a champion you need to up your game. When I get to that level I'll be ready to fight guys like Wilder and I should be destroying these guys when I'm an elite fighter."
