Jessie Magdaleno earned a third-round technical knockout over Luis Coria on Saturday night at the Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California.
The time of the stoppage was 3:00 with Coria’s corner stopping the fight at the end of the round in the ProBox-aired fight.
Magdaleno, a former belt holder who is now 33, entered the ring on a 10-month layoff. Magdaleno started at a measured pace. A flurry of punches from Magdaleno stumbled Coria backward in the opening round. Coria absorbed the powerful blows well as he bravely continued to move forward. Coria showed signs of life in round two, landing a big right hand on Coria. An accidental head clash also occurred in that round with neither suffering a cut. A right hook from Magdaleno in round three forced Coria to stumble for the second time in the fight. Magdaleno landed a straight left followed by a right hook that dropped Coria at the end of round three. Coria would get to his feet and finish the round, though the corner felt their fighter had seen enough for the night.
Magdaleno, overjoyed with emotion, ran to the neutral corner and stood on the ropes emotionally with his head in his hands.
Magdaleno snaps a two-fight losing streak as he improves to 30-3 (19 KOs), while Coria falls to 15-8 (7 KOs) as a pro. The win was the first for Magdaleno since May of 2022, when he shut out Edy Valencia Mercado in Las Vegas.
