As of Tuesday, despite what was being brandied about over the weekend, the bout between WBA middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) and Daniel Jacobs has not been finalized.
"No, the fight is still under negotiations and we're waiting for the good word on it," said Andre Rozier, who trains Jacobs.
In the meantime, Rozier has been working with Jacobs in the gym as they await word on this fight that could possibly take place on March 18th at the Madison Square Garden.
"We've been ready ever since the talks began about the bout taking place. We're ready mentally, we're preparing, doing a light training schedule right now until we find out what's going on. But we'll be physically, mentally and spiritually ready to take these belts from 'Triple G'," said Rozier of the unified champion, who has possession of the WBA, IBF, IBO and WBC straps at 160.
Jacobs (32-1, 29KOs) is the 'regular' WBA champion (which basically makes him Golovkin's mandatory challenger) and Tom Loeffler said last Wednesday that the organization had given both parties a seven day deadline to come to an agreement or that fight would go to a purse bid.
When asked if it would be a letdown if this bout is not consummated the two go their separate ways, Rozier told BoxingScene.com:
"Well, it would be but you also have to remember that the nature of boxing is sometimes to be prepared for disappointment. So hopefully this wont be the case but we're ready for whatever comes our way."
