Golden Boy Promotions executive Bernard Hopkins is not only expecting David Lemieux (34-2, 31KOs) to win big on October 17th - he expects him to "win big."
Lemieux will stake his IBF middleweight title against WBA/IBO champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) in a three belt unification at New York's Madison Square Garden. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the event.
Golovkin is favored by the majority of the press to win, by knockout.
Hopkins once ruled the middleweight, being the only fighter to unify all the WBO/WBA/IBF/WBC belts before moving up by two divisions to light heavyweight.
He is not convinced that Golovkin will be able to make the proper adjustments against a big puncher like Lemieux, who is going to come aggressive from the opening bell with big power punch combinations of his own.
Most are expecting the bout to end within the first six rounds, with someone out of their back.
"[Lemieux is] sharp, he has the right mindset. When it's all said and done he's going in there and he'll do what he needs to do - be aggressive but be smart, take it to him and make Triple G feel uncomfortable for what might be one of the very first times that he felt that uncomfortable in the ring. And we're gonna see if he can make those adjustments, and I'm saying he might not. And if he do, we're still looking for a good fight - and I'm looking for my guy to win and win big," Hopkins said in a video interview on BoxingScene.com.
