Fight fans have to be excited that GGG is back in the ring, but the opponent leaves much to be desired.

IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) is widely expected to make easy work of Marco Antonio Rubio, holder of the WBC interim-belt, next Saturday, and there's plenty of better fights out there. Unfortunately, Golovkin and K2 Promotions have had a difficult time attracting a deserving challenger. But K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler says it will be a competitive fight.

"I don't think he's supposed to wipe out Rubio, Rubio went 12 rounds with (Julio Cesar) Chavez, very durable guy and he's a big puncher, so I think it's a very competitive fight," Loeffler told BoxingScene.com last week. "It's a unification fight, it makes a lot of sense. He's fought Chavez, he's fought (Kelly) Pavlik so he's a good name and you see how the fight fans have reacted."

It's true that fans have reacted well, with the StubHub Center being forced to open up bleacher seating to accommodate the large demand. However, that's due to GGG, not the matchup.

It's hard to see this fight being evenly remotely competitive. A far more likely outcome is another GGG beatdown inside six rounds.
