New York - Whether it was his ‘Mexican Style’, or his KO ratio, Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) has resonated with fans throughout the country. He sold out the tennis arena at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California. He put well over 12,000 fans on the Forum in Inglewood, California. Already for his showdown with David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s) in New York, there have been 15,000 tickets sold at Madison Square Garden. With 2 months left, a sellout is expected.

Golovkin is selling in tradition venues where Mexican on the west coast sell well and on the east coast at Madison Square Garden where outside of Miguel Cotto and a random appearance by Wladimir Klitschko, has been a barren arena for boxing.

Golovkin says boxing fans understand his style and love it no matter where they are from.

“Fans understand boxing and my style,” Golovkin told BoxingScene.com. “People love my style, east coast, west coast, in Europe, people love my style.”

During a media round table, Golovkin was asked whether he felt pressure to put boxing on his shoulders because of the letdown that was the super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Golovkin responded by saying - “My style is defend, I don’t like dancing, I like fighting.”

Lemieux stepped up the plate as the only one of the other champions in the 160 lb division willing to fight Golovkin. That was no surprise to Triple G

“He’s a strong champion and a strong team so not it didn’t surprise me. My focus is on David, unification, and our fight is serious business.”
