Former world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin revealed on Saturday that Johnathon Banks is his new head trainer.
Last week Golovkin parted ways with long-time trainer Abel Sanchez, with the acrimonious split apparently triggered by a dispute over money.
Banks, a former cruiserweight and heavyweight contender, is best known for taking over the training duties of former unified heavyweight champion Wladmir Klitschko when Emanuel Steward passed away in 2012.
Golovkin recently signed a lucrative six-fight deal reportedly worth $100 million with streaming company DAZN.
The 37-year-old Kazakhstan fighter, 38-1-1 with 34 knockouts, is scheduled to return to action on June 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York against unbeaten Canadian Steve Rolls, 19-0 with 10 knockouts.
The fight with Rolls will be the first time "Triple G" will enter the ring without Sanchez guiding him since they began working together in early 2010. They won 20 fights together.
Golovkin owned the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation world middleweight titles until 2018. He was stripped of the IBF for failing to make a mandatory, and lost the other three when he dropped a 12-round majority decision to Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.
Golovkin will be ringside tonight when Canelo unifies with IBF champion Daniel Jacobs tonight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
