Mohsin Hussain / Matchroom BoxingMatchroom Boxing is looking to reschedule Dalton Smith’s maiden defense of his WBC junior welterweight title against Alberto Puello for October or November, BoxingScene understands.
Smith, 19-0 (14 KOs), was set to fight WBC mandatory challenger Puello, 24-1 (10 KOs), on June 6 at Utilita Arena in Sheffield, England, but an injury to Smith’s elbow postponed the bout.
The contest would have been a homecoming for Sheffield’s Smith who won his title on away turf when he emphatically stopped Subriel Matias at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center inside five rounds back in January to claim the famous green and gold belt.
Smith will now get another chance to defend his title in front of his home fans.
Smith’s promoter Matchroom Boxing are understood to be targeting October or November at the Utilita Arena.
