A few weeks ago, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs) challenged Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29KOs) and dared the dangerous middleweight to move up to 168-pounds.
After watching Golovkin's win over Martin Murray, where the Kazakh puncher retained his WBC-interim/IBO/WBA titles with an eleventh round stoppage, Chavez threw down a challenge. Chavez will return on April 18th, when he faces Polish light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara.
"Without his power, [Golovkin] is not that good a fighter. I'd bet 'GGG' a million dollars from the purse that I would knock him out if we fought in my weight division. But first I have to beat Andrzej Fonfara, who is bigger and stronger," Chavez stated.
Top Rank had tried to make a fight between Chavez and Golovkin last June 2014.
Golovkin has heard about these comments, but he's not taking it seriously.
"I know that this stuff is not serious. I know that this stuff on Twitter is like a joke. I win and he's like 'Oh Gennady I'm here, you remember me.' It's not serious. It's funny. It's not true," Golovkin said.
