Cruiserweight contender and Premier Boxing Champions commentator, BJ Flores, believes Floyd Mayweather's upcoming Showtime Pay-Per-View is going to generate respectable buyrate numbers.
How well? Flores expects the numbers to be similar to Mayweather's first pay-per-view fight with Marcos Maidana in May of 2014 and the Robert Guerrero fight in May of 2013.
Both of those pay-per-view events hit the 1 million buy mark, according to Showtime. Industry experts are predicting the next fight, against Andre Berto, will do far less.
Berto, 3-3 in his last six fights, is viewed as the biggest underdog to face Mayweather on pay-per-view. Some oddsmakers have listed Mayweather as high as an 80-1 favorite to win.
Flores believes the casual fans will come out in full force to purchase what Mayweather is billing as the 'final fight' of his pro career.
"You gotta remember one thing, the core boxing fans make up a very small amount of the overall pay-per-views. It depends on what kind of job Showtime does with the build up and if they do the whole thing where they cover the training camp," Flores told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
"I think if you get inside the camp of Andre Berto and you get inside the camp of Floyd, and you get people really watching that and tuned in, I think it’s still going to sell. It won’t sell like Manny and Floyd, but I think it could easily do similar numbers of what Maidana did in the first fight and it could easily do similar numbers to what Guerrero did."
