WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (37-2-2, 16 KOs) continues to discuss his willingness to stage a unification bout with WBO beltholder Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs). Pirog is scheduled to return on May 1 in Russia against Nobuhiro Ishida of Japan. Should Pirog win, he is possibly going to face IBF champion Daniel Geale on an August date in the United States. Sturm is also planning to make his next title defense in the month of August.
"I think Pirog is an excellent boxer. In Germany, no one knows him. We would have to work very hard for the promotion of the fight with him [in Germany]. Our battle with [Sebastian] Zbik sold itself. Evidence of this hype can be seen in the media. With Pirog, we can meet in the near future. It would be a great fight. It can be organized in Moscow. It is necessary to box in the big cities. I think it would be a super fight for Moscow," Sturm said.
"Dmitry is a very dangerous opponent, without question. He is very good boxer, although he hasn't fought with many of the famous names. But I think that a fight between two world champions would always be interesting."
