British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. believes IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs) is missing the necessary fire to unseat WBC/IBO/IBF/WBA middleweight world champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs).
Eubank was in talks to fight Golovkin in the fall. The fight fell apart at the last minute after Eubank Jr, and his father/manager Chris Eubank Sr., were unable to reach an agreement with their own promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.
When Eubank Jr. fell out, Brook accepted the contest and challenges Golovkin on September 10th at the O2 Arena in Las Vegas.
Eubank Jr (23-1, 18KOs) is hoping to get Golovkin at the end of the year or the start of 2017. The once-beaten contender is not buying Golovkin's stake as being one of the best pound for pound fighters in boxing.
"I think Kell is just along for the ride and is just happy to be getting a pay-day and being involved in what he thinks is the biggest fight in boxing at the moment. He's just there to take part. Brook isn't going in there with the mindset that I would go in there, which would be to destroy the guy. I believe Brook just wants to make sure he doesn't get hurt, so I don't give him much of a chance," Eubank Jr. told Sky Sports.
"As far as him being a British fighter goes, I'll always back the British fighter but I think it will be too much for him. I don't know how much he wants it, judging from the press conferences. There's no fire. They're both very boring characters. I 100 percent still expect that fight to happen. He's the man in the middleweight division at the moment and after he's had his playtime with Kell Brook, the boxing public will expect him to fight a real middleweight.
"They will expect him to be in a fight where it's not so publicly thought that he's going to win. Against Brook, not many are giving Brook a chance and why should they? He's not a middleweight. For Golovkin to say he's pound-for-pound I don't think is right when he's fighting a guy two weight divisions below him. I'm just waiting for my chance. The fight fell through at the last minute but I believe the fight is still on the cards.
"I'll be looking to fight the winner of Golovkin v Brook at the end of the year or very early next year."
