Lawrence Lustig/BoxxerEddie Hearn did not believe Caroline Dubois-Terri Harper was close to happening, despite speculation that Harper was in contention to fight the WBC lightweight champion.
Dubois’ promoter Boxxer has since announced that Dubois will defend her title against Bo Mi Re Chin instead of unifying against Harper, the WBO champion.
Asked how close Dubois-Harper came to being made, Hearn told BoxingScene: “Not very.
“[Boxxer] made an offer. I don’t like talking numbers, but do you remember when Terri Harper drew with Natasha Jonas?
“That was a long time ago, so the market has improved a lot since then. But the offer that they made to Terri Harper was half of the offer that I made Natasha Jonas to fight Terri Harper, so that should give you an example.”
Hearn regardless would not rule out the fight happening in the future and praised Dubois, 24, as a “brilliant” fighter.
“We’re open to that fight – Caroline’s a brilliant fighter,” added Hearn. “Terri’s got massive news coming up but Beatriz Ferreira is available and was available [for Dubois]. We offered her for March 7; we offered her for the [Conor] Benn-[Chris] Eubank card.
“This is to fight Caroline Dubois, but they turned down the opportunity for a big unification matchup to cement your legacy as one of the top stars in the sport and instead they went for Bo Mi Re Chin.”
Hearn said Dubois-Chin would free up the 28-year-old Harper to face Ferreira.
“I mean, they’re going to unify faster unless the money changes drastically, but I said to Ben Shalom, we don’t need a purse bid for Beatriz Ferreira; she thinks she wins comfortably in that fight [with Dubois],” he said. “I think it’s a very dangerous fight.
“But at the same time, she said just give me Brazilian TV and give me my chance for legacy. She’s just about fighting the best. So I said to Ben Shalom, ‘Don’t worry about paying her, I’ll look after that, Caroline can make a fortune,' but I never heard back.”
