Lou DiBella liked what he saw from Anthony Joshua as the heavyweight titleholder dominated Dominic Breazeale on Saturday. But the promoter, who’s been working on a number of shows involving boxers advised by Al Haymon, believes that Joshua isn’t yet the complete version of himself.
“He was fortunate he fought the right guy, got a heavyweight belt,” DiBella said, referencing how Joshua made quick work of Charles Martin for the title earlier this year. Martin had won the vacant belt after Vyacheslav Glazkov sufferd an injury in their fight.
“I think he’s a work in progress. He’s a tremendous prospect, and I think he’s going to be a force in the heavyweight division for years to come. He beat Breazeale to a pulp. Breazeale showed a lot of heart, but that was a very one-sided fight.”
That’s two straight American fighters that the Brit has beaten. Fans and observers are wondering when there will be a unification bout between Joshua and another big man from the United States, titleholder Deontay Wilder.
“Right now it wouldn’t be a super fight,” DiBella said. “Joshua is a young heavyweight. He’s still learning. I think that fight’s inevitable somewhere down the line, but not now.”
