Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya says Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) got even bigger, as a fighter and as a person, following his twelve round majority decision loss last September to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

There were many expects who felt Canelo was not mentally ready and too inexperienced to face a boxer on the level of Mayweather.

The event was very lucrative, generating 2.2 million pay-per-view purchases and going down as the richest event in boxing history.

"[Canelo] doesn't need to do anything but keep on winning, because the strong fights, the difficult ones, are going to keep on coming. His life, his career, he is well underway. At 23 he faced Mayweather. Yes, I think many people thought he was too young to deal with him; a lot of people thought that perhaps it was the wrong fight plan," De La Hoya told Ricardo Juarez.

"But one thing I know: he didn't lose anything [from that loss]. On the contrary, he grew as a fighter, as a person. The experience is priceless. You need to keep that winning attitude, of a champion. He is a dedicated guy who likes to fight and please his fans."
