Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya feels very confident that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will make the proper adjustments to unseat IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
The two boxers will collided for a second time on September 15th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The first bout took place in September 2017, and saw the two boxers fight to a controversial twelve round split draw. One judge saw it 115-113 for Golovkin, another 118-110 for Canelo and 114-114 was scored by the third for the draw.
De La Hoya did not see the first bout as a draw.
He had Canelo winning the contest with a 7-5 round margin, 115-113.
For the rematch, De La Hoya believes his boxer will win by a wider margin.
He expects him to make the necessary adjustments to pull away with the victory that's more convincing. De La Hoya, like Canelo, view Golovkin as a boxer who can only fight in one way - coming forward with combinations.
They don't expect Golovkin to make any adjustments for the second - because they believe that he's not capable of doing so.
"Yeah, there's always -- you can always do better. That's the beauty about boxing, and he knows what he has to do. I believe he fought a great fight. He fought his own fight, and I had him up two points," De La Hoya said.
"So, obviously, the second time around -- and that's the beauty with a rematch is that you can change up your style. You can adjust to your opponent's style, and that's the beauty with Canelo is that he knows how to adjust, unlike GGG that only fights one way, and that's coming forward."
Canelo has promised to make the proper adjustments for a knockout victory. He intends to start punching very early, from round one, and claims that his plan to let his hands go for the entire fight.
