WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs) is not only ready, but he's also very confident of handing Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) his first defeat as a pro.
Mayweather, who retired last September after winning a twelve round decision over Andre Berto, is hinting at the possibility of returning to the ring for a 50th fight in the fall.
The boxer who continues to be mentioned as the frontrunner to face Mayweather is Garcia. Both Mayweather and Garcia share the same adviser in Al Haymon.
When Mayweather retired last year, he vacated all of his world titles. At the time of his retirement, he was the WBC/WBA champion at welterweight and junior middleweight.
Garcia captured the vacant WBC title at 147 after winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Robert Guerrero earlier this year.
To date, the unbeaten champion from Philadelphia has not been officially contacted by anyone regarding a Mayweather fight - but he's very interested in getting the fight and he believes that he possesses the proper tools to snatch away that zero from Mayweather's record.
"I haven't heard anything yet," Garcia told Sky Sports. "I've seen it in social media, but as far as me talking to anyone about fighting Floyd Mayweather? I didn't hear about it yet - or it hasn't reached me yet.
"But I want it. I am a great fighter, I believe in myself physically and mentally and I think I will beat anyone who steps in the ring with me. It would be a dream come true and a fight I would love to see happen. That's what we want to do. There will be a new king in there and I am looking forward to getting in there and getting the job done."
"I have been following him through my career and I feel I have the tools to go out there and dethrone him."
