In a recent interview, former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter had mentioned the possibility of getting his hands on WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs).
Garcia captured the vacant title back in January with a twelve round unanimous decision over former beltholder Robert Guerrero. The belt became vacant when Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his retirement last September after decisioning Andre Berto.
Porter returns next Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in a highly anticipated fight against WBA welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman.
Garcia has advised Porter to stop mentioning him and worry about the big meal on his plate, which is the upcoming title fight with Thurman.
"You see a lot of fighters - why are you worried about me? You fighting Keith Thurman and Keith Thurman said that he love you, but he's going to put you to sleep - and you're over there worried about me," Garcia told Fox Deportes.
"At the end of the day you have to stay focused on the task at hand, and then you get past him and we can make that fight happen."
Garcia has yet to confirm his next fight or the date of his next fight, but he plans to be ringside at the Barclays Center to watch Porter and Thurman trade punches.
There has been talk that Garcia could end up facing the Thurman/Porter winner in a high profile fight - which may become either a Showtime or a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view event. Garcia's next opponent has been rumored to be former welterweight champion Andre Berto, who recently knocked Victor Ortiz in their rematch.
