BoxingScene.com reported two weeks ago that former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) was very interested in reunited with his former trainer Freddie Roach.

Chavez Jr. parted ways with Roach last year. The breakup happened not long after the boxer had left Top Rank and signed with manager/adviser Al Haymon.

He worked earlier this year with Joe Goossen for one fight and then hired Robert Garcia to train him for his July decision victory over Marco Reyes.

Roach told BoxingScene last week that he was very interested in working with Chavez Jr. once again.

Their reunion looked possible, but now it's not going to happen. The Mexican star has decided to stay Garcia. He feels that a twelve week training camp with Garcia for a possible March fight with WBC 168-pound champion Badou Jack is the right direction to take.

He was also given medical clearance to use his left hand, which he injured in July and had to underdog surgery.

"The first thing that has me happy is that we got the green light to hit with my left hand, which was the one that was operated on. I can hit a little, not very hard. I'm at 60 percent," Chavez Jr. told ESPN Deportes.

"I want to train with Robert, the last time we had camp was just five weeks, and this time we will go for two and a half months in Big Bear. I want to give us the opportunity to work hard together, this time the fight is harder, requires a strong camp and the best from both of us."
