Anthony Cuba has found a team and platform that is enabling him to shine.
Cuba hopes to continue his upward trajectory as he faces Jorge De Jesus in an eight-round fight at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. The bout will be his third on ProBox TV.
Cuba, 10-1-2 (4 KOs), started training with Robert Garcia a year and a half ago. His career-best performance came in February, when he defeated Demichael Harris via eight-round unanimous decision.
“I know from the bottom of my heart I am up there with all the great champions,” Cuba told BoxingScene. “ProBox did a great job picking up a hidden gem like myself, because I know I train hard and work hard so I can showcase my skills.”
Cuba, a 22-year-old from Fontana, California, believes that activity will be one of his keys to success. Since the Harris fight, he won a six-round unanimous decision over Marco Antonio Juarez Rodriguez in March. The bout will be his third eight-round bout of his career, and he says that he is preparing for 10-round fights in the future.
“The more fights I get, the more confidence I gain,” Cuba said. “With that confidence, my true skill is coming out.”
Cuba’s most public fight so far was a loss to prospect Curmel Moton on the undercard of Tim Tszyu-Sebastian Fundora. Since that loss, he has won three straight fights. Cuba is unfazed by the early career loss, believing it is only up from this point onward, and stating he has the heart of a warrior.
He faces De Jesus, 14-1 (10 KOs), who upset LaVonte Earley in May on a ProBox TV card headlined by Erickson Lubin stopping Ardreal Holmes Jnr. De Jesus entered on a nine-fight winning streak after a first-round knockout loss to Juan Delgado de Leon in 2023.
“He is another human like myself,” Cuba said. “It doesn’t matter what win he is coming off of; he is not going to be able to get past me.”
