Retired former champion Carl Froch believes Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18KOs) has everything it takes to defeat IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).
Eubank and Golovkin were in talks to fight each other last September. The fight never happened because there were issues between Eubank Jr. and his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.
After Eubank Jr. missed two deadlines to sign the contract, Hearn pulled him out and replaced him with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, who Golovkin stopped in five rounds.
Eubank Jr. will return to the ring on February 4th, at super middleweight, against IBO world champion Renold Quinlan. He believes the Golovkin fight will still go down later on in the year.
If the fight takes place, Froch is picking Eubank Jr. to win.
"[Eubank Jr.] is a very good fighter, very skillful, very hard, very fit and a real force to be reckoned with at middleweight. I'd love to see him fight Triple G and I think that he can beat Triple G - I really do," Froch told IFL TV.
Golovkin is back in the ring on March 18th in a mandatory title defense against Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Froch is a big fan of Jacobs, but feels Golovkin will have too much for him.
"A good fight. Jacobs is a great fighter at middleweight. He's good, solid, all-around. I like what he does. A proper test really for Golovkin. You could say it's probably his first real test. Its a good fight, but I think Golovkin will just have too much for him. He's a big puncher Golovkin. He can bang and I think that power punch will always be the defining [factor]. He's a very dangerous fighter at middleweight," Froch said.
