Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is preparing for his second pay per view event with him as the headlining fighter as he will take on the always tough Alfredo “Perro” Angulo on March 8th in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand. This will be the first of three schedule fights this year for Alvarez as he continues his mission to become one of boxing’s biggest superstars.

Another opponent that some fans have asked about is Erislandy Lara who handed Angulo a loss in their last fight. It’s a fight that should be fairly easy to make as both men campaign at 154 pounds and are both signed to Golden Boy Promotions. During an exclusive interview with BoxingScene, Alvarez was asked for his thoughts on Lara and a potential fight between them.

“Well he’s a good fighter. He’s an opponent that has a bright future and his moment will come but right now all I have visualized is March 8th and nothing else. The time will come for that fight if it needs to happen” said Alvarez.

Lara bested Angulo last June when Angulo’s right eye ballooned up from Lara’s left hands and was forced to stop the fight. But even in victory Lara didn’t walk away from that fight unscathed as he was dropped twice and many felt Angulo had all the momentum going into the final rounds; including Alvarez who felt Angulo would’ve won the fight had he not withdrew from the fight.

“I saw [Angulo] look very good [in that fight]. If he hadn’t abandoned the fight, I think he probably would’ve won. I think he would’ve won but it didn’t go that way. He abandoned the fight but he fought an excellent fight and if it would’ve gone to decision, he would’ve won” Alvarez would tell BoxingScene before his workout.

Alvarez has plenty of opponents to choose from should he defeat Angulo but he refuses to talk about any other potential fights until his business is taken care of March 8th as he is not overlooking his opponent for a second.
