It’s gonna be a good summer for Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella.
The unbeaten welterweight prospect from Ft. Myers, Florida will make his second straight ESPN-televised appearance in a span of just over two months. He will face Yordenis Ugas in a scheduled 10-round battle, which takes place August 12 at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York as part of the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on ESPN series.
Headlining the show, undefeated featherweight Miguel Flores squares off against Ryan Kielczewski, also scheduled for 10-rounds.
Perrella (14-0, 13KOs) played a similar role in his previous outing, delivering big time in a 2nd round knockout of David Grayton this past June in Montreal, Canada. The bout was in supporting capacity to light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev’s return from injury, but the highlight of the night was Perrella racking up his 11th consecutive knockout.
The 6’0” southpaw now looks to make it an even dozen, once again facing a foe who has never been stopped.
“I think (Ugas) a good fighter and the fact he’s never been knocked out motivates me,” notes Perrella, who will make his fourth consecutive TV appearance, his last three bouts having aired – in reverse order – on ESPN, FS1 and Spike TV. “I take it as a challenge and I plan to be the first to stop him. I’m obsessed with becoming the best because this is who I am.”
Ugas (15-3, 7KOs) earned a bronze medal for his native Cuba in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His pro career hasn't quite produced the same level of success, having suffered points losses in each of his last two bouts and comes in following a two-year layoff. The Miami-based Cuban boxer was last seen coming up short versus super lightweight contender Amir Imam in May ’14.
Heading in the complete opposite direction, the August 12 bout will mark Perrella’s sixth in a span of just 11 months. The 27-year old has yet to be extended beyond the sixth round since turning pro in 2012.
