FORT WORTH, Tex. – The margin deciding who wins between WBC interim 154lbs champion Vergil Ortiz Jnr and former title challenger Erickson Lubin will be determined in the ring Saturday night at Dickies Arena.
For now, the difference is a scant two-tenths of a pound as Ortiz, 23-0 (21 KOs), weighed in at 153.8 pounds Friday and Lubin, 27-2 (19 KOs), came in at the junior-middleweight limit of 154 pounds.
“I want to fight the best, the cream of the crop,” Lubin said on stage at the public weigh-in. “If you can’t make it on the scene, make it to the screen.”
The DAZN card is expected to feature an appearance by Philadelphia’s recently unified welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis, who is targeting a showdown with Ortiz should the Texan win.
“It’s winner take all,” Lubin said. "He has the fighting spirit. This is a high-stakes matchup. We’ll fight anybody and we’ve got the best resumes.”
Ortiz said he is out to prove he’s the division’s best fighter.
“We’ve got one fight we’re worried about Saturday night,” Ortiz said in reference to Ennis’ presence. “We’ve got no distractions.”
